TF Design supplied & commissioned a climate test chamber for the automotive interiors industry to test airbags at extreme temperatures.
The chamber has an internal volume of 16m3 and is equipped with a moving trolley that can transport a test load of up to 400kg into the room through a set of automated sliding doors.
Operating temperatures range from -40℃ to 100℃, with deployment occurring outside of the chamber. Low temperatures are obtained by means of a single-stage cascade refrigeration system, whilst electrical heating elements are used to reach the higher temperatures.
The system is equipped with a custom PLC-based control system and HMI from which the unit is operated, and data is extracted.
